First Day of School 2013

First Day of Preschool II - Age 4

I'm not sure who was more excited this morning about the first day of school, me or the kiddos! George and I woke early (well, not early for George) and roused the little angels; Fin's little face was lit up by her glowing pink ladybug nightlight in bed. Grey got up right away, and Finley didn't take too much coaxing from George.

We took our second annual "What I want to be when I grow up" photos on the front porch, and then a few with their coveted new lunchboxes! Who knew that could be so thrilling?!

When I asked Fin last night and this morning about what she wanted to be when she grows up, she didn't hesitate a bit in saying "A fireman. A fire fighter!"

Grey, however, was a different story. Both times he told us, "I don't want to grow up." We talked about it a bit, reassuring him he did not in fact have to grow up right now, and he eventually disappeared into the playroom and came back playing a huge drum. He took it to the breakfast table with him and set it next to his pancakes. He finally decided on becoming "a musician" because he wanted to be able to play all the instruments. I love them.

They put on sunglasses in the car and squealed "whee" down our favorite hill on the way to school. It was a pretty quick run since Dallas schools don't start back for another week. Lucky for us since we were running a little late after the photos and all.

We pulled into the packed parking lot and made our way to the front steps to see Mrs. Beazley, head of school, with her Owl (Kessler's mascot) coffee mug and Paige, the new Children's youth leader from church. We took a photo with Mrs. Beazley and talked to a few friends on the way inside.

The kids easily went in and met Mrs. Louis and her assistant Mrs. Gonzalez. Mrs. Louis showed the kids their new cubbies; Finley has yellow, and Grey has blue.

Grey told her, "My favorite color is blue!" upon seeing his blue cubby.

We saw our friends Doss, Max, Carson and Emme. We also met some new friends and took some photos.

Next Grey had rounded up the shopping cart and asked Mrs. Gonzales if she had any food for it.

Hugs and kisses for all. No sniveling or crying by me or anyone. Well done.

I handed out "happy goodies" to the teachers and staff and made my way out.

It was wonderful to go back to school, back to a place we know and love and feel comfortable. Even though the kids are in a new classroom with new teachers, the feeling of familiarity and familiar faces and friends makes it so easy.

A great day so far! Can't wait to hear the news when I pick them up this afternoon.
