Squirt Bottles, Bubbles, Popsicles, Jammies and Movies - Last Day of Pre-K 3

“Play is the highest expression of human development in children; it’s the free expression of what’s in a child’s soul.” Friedrich Froebel

What a day! Let me just say I cannot believe it has been a full school year, Finley and Grey’s first school year. What a wonderful thing for them. It is great to see how they have grown and the friendships they have made. They were blessed with wonderful teachers, staff and people who cared about them. Today, as on most days, they played and had a blast!

“Play is the highest form of research.” Albert Einstein

Well, today was definitely filled with research!

First, the pre-k classes got to spend the morning on the “big kid playground” armed with squirt bottles and bubbles.

And the teachers were VERY good sports!

They even chased Mrs. Gutierrez into the tree!

“People tend to forget that play is serious.” David Hockney, artist

“The most effective kind of education is that a child should play amongst lovely things.” Plato

Bubbles, bubbles, everywhere!

“The day I see a leaf is a marvel of a day.” Kenneth Patton, poet

Friends.

Then, of course, we all had to stop and observe the recycling truck as it emptied four giant containers into the truck.

Next step – popsicles. The kids look a little dazed and wilted, but not for long!

After popsicles the kiddos changed into jammies to eat popcorn and watch movies, “Nemo” was first. Then some chose to go and play on the playground . . . in jammies!

And, how could it be time to go? Lots of hugs and kisses and wishes to “see you soon!”

Happy hearts.

Chicken Scratch for Dinner with Jenny, Mark, and Jack!

Yay! Yay! Yay!

Jenny, Mark and Jack came to town for her grandfather’s 92nd birthday (woo hoo Daddy Art!), and we got to eat dinner together! I was so excited. Just love her and her family. We told Finley that we had been friends since 4th grade and we were nine. She liked that.

We met at Chicken Scratch on Sunday night, of Memorial Day weekend, which proved to be pretty crowded, but just the right amount of fun!

We picked a place in the shade, fooling ourselves that we would be cool, but close to the playground; it was a good plan though. It really wasn't that bad. The kids ran around, made new friends and got sweaty. Jack climbed. He's gotten so tall. Man, how time flies.
We had Chicken Scratch's wonderful fried chicken - in a large biscuit, and the kids as chicken fingers with their tasty fries. Jenny and I tried the homemade hummus lettuce wraps. I know, we were at a place known for chicken, but the wraps were very good. And I knew that my kids would not eat all of their chicken; it's my little plan to eat my children's leftovers.  Mostly it was wonderful to sit and eat and chat with my oldest, dearest friend and watch our children play. Bliss.

Yum - strawberry paletas!
The kids opened birthday presents – always fun. We were all quite excited to see Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive The Bus by Mo Willems and a new Skippy John Jones book by Judy Schachner! And they got a Cat In the Hat game. (We read both books last night and of course played the new game today!) Jack got us started reading books about Skippy John Jones a few years ago. We love his funny adventures as a Siamese cat pretending to be a Chiuaua.

Time for good-byes and hugs.

Always too soon.

Cherished time.

Smushy gushy girl that I am. Thank goodness.
